What is liquidID?

liquidID is an extension to OpenID. OpenID allows you to logon to sites such as WikiTravel, Springnote and SourceForge.

So firstly, what's OpenID?

OpenID is one of the most exciting initiatives to hit the Internet in recent years. An OpenID is an identifier (such as yourname.liquidid.net) that you obtain from an OpenID provider. You simply type this identifier into the login field of any OpenID enabled site. The site redirects you to your OpenID provider (liquidid.net) which asks for your password. If correct, then liquidid.net will redirect you back to the site you are trying to access, which logs you in. Simple.

Now, what's liquidID?

liquidID is an OpenID provider enhanced by an aliasing service. It is like no other OpenID provider. liquidID is not a spam filter: It provides protection against abuse of your email using email aliases instead. This has the advantages of zero false positives and allows tracking of who can and who can't be trusted [patents pending].

liquidID also allows you to create general purpose email aliases. You can use these on sites that don't yet support OpenID.
